The Workshop brand model number WS0501WM wet and dry wall mounted vacuum cleaner is relatively new to the market. What are the pros and cons of this wet/dry vacuum designed for use in the garage and with automobiles?
Pros Workshop WS0501WM Vacuum
This compact wet/dry shop vacuum has a very small footprint whether mounted on the wall or set down on the floor. It is easy to mount to the wall.
The WS0501WM vacuum comes with a number of car detailing tools that its rivals force you to buy separately from the wet/dry shop vacuum cleaner.
This model of shop vacuum has a quick locking filter that minimizes the mess created by changing the filter.
You get 21 feet of hose and 21 feet of power cord; this vacuum can cover an entire work bench while mounted on the wall and the entire two car garage while plugged into one outlet. The smaller seven foot long hose compactly stores as a two foot long hose, if you don’t want to mess with the longer hose while cleaning around the workbench.
Workshop gives its wet/dry vacuum a five year warranty; this is one of the longest warranties in the industry for this type of product.
This shop vacuum can double as a blower, whether you want to blow leaves out of the garage, dust off the workbench or fur balls stuck in the hose. It can be used as a blower in a small area, such as blowing snow and dirt coming in from outside, but it can’t be used as a snow blower for the whole driveway.
The dusting brush on this vacuum cleaner is perfect for cleaning consoles, around the shift stick and dashboard. The triangular shape lets you clean in corners with minimal contortions.
The model WS0501WM has a claw nozzle for picking up stuff stuck in those small nooks and crannies of your car, and it can be used to pick up mid-sized items dropped behind a workbench as well.
The dust collection bag contains fine plaster dust and wood dust that some rivals vent out the back of the vacuum cleaner, and it keeps the dust contained as you empty the vacuum bag.
The Workshop brand model number WS0501WM vacuum cleaner has a muffler, making it one of the quietest shop vacuums on the market.
This vacuum has a side tool storage basket to keep accessories near at hand without a separate bag that is easy to lose in and of itself.
Cons Workshop WS0501WM Vacuum
At 24 pounds, this shop vacuum is somewhat heavier than its rivals. It is heavy enough that some people cannot lift it up and down to take it off the wall mounting, which is required to not only use it as a blower but change out the filters and dirt bags. Only mount it to the wall if you can mount it low enough to make removing it and maintaining it easy to do without straining yourself.
You don’t get replacement bags or filters with the vacuum cleaner, and these consumables are not cheap.
This vacuum can handle sticky messes like dog poop and kid spit-up, but it doesn’t handle large purely liquid messes well. If you often clean up purely liquid messes, this isn’t the right vacuum for you.
Observations
The suction on this vacuum is middle of the pack.
The WS0501WM vacuum by Workshop costs a little more than the WS0500WM. The main difference between the two is the accessories you are given; the WS0500WM replaces the claw nozzle with a general utility nozzle and different brushes.
The shop vacuum has a 1 7/8” hose that force you to rely on the manufacturer for replacement hoses, implements and attachments. You can’t swap out with someone else’s longer hose or better upholstery brush. Conversely, this size hose is large enough to suck up loose change without clogging.
The vacuum doesn’t have wheels, but it has an easy to use carry handle for when you do need to move it.
Summary
This Workshop model number WS0501WM wet/dry wall mounted vacuum is a good choice for those who clean dry messes and the occasional sticky gunk off workbenches and cars. It is an ideal choice for those who can mount it in short reach of all cars in the garage so they can detail all of the family’s vehicles.
