In this review of the Vacmaster Wall Mount Wet/Dry Vacuum, model VWM510, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this model.
Pros of the Vacmaster VWM510
This wall mounted wet/dry vacuum cleaner costs a little more than many vacuum cleaners used to clean up your car or work bench, but has the capacity of a mid-sized garage wet/dry vacuum.
You can store this vacuum cleaner on the wall, freeing up floor space.
It has a long twenty foot cord with cord wrap, so you can clean around the workshop, house or garage without searching for a new plug. This is in addition to the twenty foot long hose that lets you crawl throughout the car cleaning without having to constantly re-position the vacuum cleaner or wear yourself out holding a handheld vacuum for an hour.
The Vacmaster comes with a number of tools that its rivals require you to pay extra for. You can store all of the accessories on board the vacuum cleaner, so they won’t be lost. The vacuum has two locations for mounting a tool bucket on the side of the vacuum, so you can choose where you want to store the attachments.
This vacuum cleaner is easy to assemble into a working unit. Likewise, setting up the wall mount only requires a stud and the screws that come with the unit.
Cons of the Vacmaster VWM510
The exhaust vent for the vacuum cleaner is on the same side as the suction vent, so this vacuum is prone to blowing fine dust up around the unit as you’re trying to vacuum it up. This is less of an issue if the vacuum canister is in one part of the room while you’re trying to vacuum up a dusty mess on the other side of the room.
The vacuum hose connects about a third of the way from the top of the unit. The result of this design is that the unit can hold a third less wet mess than it can dry mess.
Observations Regarding the Vacmaster, Model VWM510
The power button on the hose is convenient, but it sometimes takes multiple button pushes to activate.
This vacuum is unusual in that it has a remote control to let you turn it on and off. There are reports that the unit can be accidentally activated by garage door openers, as well. If you buy this unit, beware of it turning on at 5 AM when the neighbor opens their garage to go to work.
The vacuum has decent suction for picking up heavier items, but only if the item is right below the mouth of the hose.
This vacuum doesn’t have wheels on the bottom. If you buy this vacuum cleaner to clean a dedicated work space, the ideal situation is to only use it in a 20’ by 20’ work space so you don’t have to move the vacuum cleaner along.
The vacuum loses suction quickly as the filter gets clogged. You cannot wash the filter to re-use it. The unit comes with a single filter; replacement filters are available online and at some hardware stores. If you clean up a lot of muddy messes and kid spit up, you’ll want to buy multiple replacement filters. The manufacturer does offer filters that capture particles as small as one micron, in addition to wet and dry filters. Removing the top to replace the filter is a hassle if the tools are attached to the vacuum cleaner, making switching between wet and dry filters a pain.
Summary
The Vacmaster, model VWM510, is an affordable, versatile wet/dry vacuum. It has good power for its size as long as you use relatively new filters.
