In this review of the Oreck Commercial LEED-Compliant upright vacuum, model U2000RB2L-1, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this vacuum cleaner. The review also includes observations that are not clear points for or against the vacuum but may affect the decision of some shoppers as to whether or not to get this vacuum cleaner.
Points for the Oreck Model U2000RB2L-1 Vacuum
This commercial vacuum cleaner is LEED compliant, which is invaluable when hotels, businesses and high traffic service providers need every appliance to meet high energy efficiency standards. Very few vacuum cleaners meet LEED standards.
The Oreck commercial vacuum weighs a little over eight pounds. It is light enough and narrow enough to carry up stairs as well as clean landings.
Vacuum cleaner’s side brushes can clean the crevices along the edge of the carpet as you clean the floor.
This model has an ultra-long forty foot power cord so that it can be used on long halls without needing to be unplugged and reconnected to a power source. The pigtail cord with a cord clamp also makes it easy to extend with additional sections or replace damaged cord sections without having to replace the vacuum cleaner.
This vacuum requires little hand strength to operate on hard floors and short carpets. It uses so little effort to push and maneuver that it received a commendation from the Arthritis Foundation.
The vacuum can lay flat to clean under furniture, with a four inch clearance for the head and eleven inch clearance if you include the handle.
The bumper doesn’t mar furniture or walls it runs into.
It has a long lasting belt that rarely ever needs to be replaced.
Vacuum bags in this model are installed near the top of the vacuum, making them easy to remove and replace.
And the vacuum bags are high capacity; you’ll be able to work for hours with this vacuum before you need to replace the bag.
Points Against the Oreck U2000RB2L-1 Commercial Vacuum
The vacuum cleaner costs about three hundred dollars new. Even on sale, it is over two hundred dollars.
This vacuum cleaner does not clean thick carpets well. It does a decent job on tiles, hardwood floors and short carpets.
Observations
This is a bagged vacuum. Standard replacement bags when purchased in bulk cost one to two dollars each.
Hypoallergenic bags cost a little more per bag. Charcoal lined bags that remove odors cost more but are available from the manufacturer.
This Oreck vacuum can use the fresh air scented tabs, which cost less than a dollar each.
Vacuum’s warranty is only one year for the vacuum, five years for the vacuum cleaner belt.
The vacuum has a basic on-off switch with two operating speeds. Other commercial vacuums by Oreck like the U2000H2-1 lack this feature.
It is not self-propelled. The light weight and maneuverability are pluses until it is bogged down sucking up pet fur or thick berber carpet, at which point the lack of propulsion becomes a liability.
The vacuum lacks accessories for spot cleaning and doesn’t handle wet or semi-liquid messes.
Summary
Whether you want a simple, durable commercial vacuum that won’t wear out staff cleaning large facilities or durable vacuum cleaner Mom can use without straining her aching joints, this Oreck vacuum is a good choice for those who need a heavy duty basic vacuum cleaner.
