In this Miele S7280 FreshAir upright vacuum review, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this upright vacuum cleaner.
Pros of the Miele S7280 FreshAir vacuum
- This vacuum has a straightforward rotary dial with four settings to set the suction level. At any level, it has good suction. And the controls are placed higher and are more ergonomic than those on Dyson vacuums.
- This is one of the few vacuums on the market with a tool specifically to vacuum your mattress.
- The Miele FreshAir has an electro-brush that follows the contours of the floor to better clean it. Whether the carpet has wrinkles because it needs to be stretched or thick carpets on top of thin pile carpet, the Miele Fresh Air vacuum can clean it. The vacuum automatically adjusts its height via a spring loaded brush roller, never losing suction as it follows the contours of the carpet.
- It has a built in HEPA filter. The sealed system means that it will never blow dust through the unit, creating a fine dust trail as you push it across the floor. In fact, between the bag, air filters and other dust control measures, simply letting the unit run will clean the air in your home. While the HEPA filters, bag filter and exhaust filter seem like a lot, you only have to change them once a year, very little work compared to constantly hand cleaning the Dyson bagless vacuum’s filter.
- It does a good job of picking up dirt and pet dander.
- This vacuum comes with a dusting brush and upholstery tool plus a crevice nozzle, allowing you to clean almost anything in your home. And with the LED headlight, you’ll be able to see under the furniture you are cleaning.
- The Miele Fresh Air has a new Swivel Neck that allows it to turn and maneuver with very little effort. You no longer have to push and pull a vacuum, twisting and turning to get it into the corner.
- The Miele FreshAir has a cord over thirty feet long. Add its twelve foot long hose, and it has a cleaning radius of over fifty feet.
- The vacuum is easy to use. Many appliances try to get smarter with each iteration and you end up with something that blinks error codes you can’t decipher or figure out how to do something simple like adjust the suction or lower the vacuum head.
Cons of the Miele S7280 FreshAir vacuum
- This is an expensive vacuum cleaner. Originally listed for $660, you can find it for $600 through a number of retailers.
- This vacuum isn’t as compact as rivals like Dyson. And it is heavier than some of its competitors.
Observations
In this Miele S7280 FreshAir upright vacuum review, there was information that was neither a point for the model or a strike against it but was deemed useful for shoppers.
Air Clean bags and filters are relatively cheap, about $20 for a four pack. Filters need to be replaced annually. But it is very cheap when you compare it to the $550-$600 you spend on the vacuum.
The vacuum isn’t good to go straight out of the box. You have to snap the handle in place, though this is a common step for many vacuums today. You also have to install the HEPA filter replacement indicator.
Miele canister vacuums are middle of the pack when it comes to reliability. According to Consumer Reports’ 2014 edition, about 8% of its units had to be repaired in a given year. This ties with Dyson in terms of reliability, slightly better than Kenmore but far better than Hoover. Miele has far greater reliability than rival premium brand Electrolux, which has one out of eight vacuums need repair in a given year.
