Hoover Vs Bissell - Which Carpet Cleaner is Better?

If you’re shopping for a carpet cleaner to tackle the worst pet messes, there are two main brand names putting out high quality products: Hoover and Bissell. However, not all of their vacuum cleaners and carpet cleaners are suitable for pet owners. For this reason, we’re going to recommend the two best pet carpet cleaners: the Bissell brand ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Full-Size Carpet Cleaner model 1986 and Hoover brand Power Scrub Elite Pet Carpet Cleaner, model number FH50251. Pros of the Hoover Power Scrub, Model FH50251

The Hoover model is cheaper than the Bissell model, and it is periodically marked down from this initially low list price. It also has a pet tool, something you often have to pay a premium for with other brands. You can buy the extra Hoover bundles with several bottles of pet stain solution for less than the price of the Bissell carpet cleaner by itself.
The spin brushes thoroughly clean carpet fibers to remove gunk that has sunk in. However, you do need to treat the stains for this carpet cleaner to get it up.
The deep clean mode takes it to the next level, removing stains and dirt down to the root of the carpet as long as it isn’t thick or shaggy carpet.
The dual tank model means it won’t mix pet mess in the clean water tank, finely spraying the residue over the rest of the carpet.
The large capacity tank allows you to clean larger areas with a single load of water. Furthermore, the dirty water tank is easier to clean than its rivals.

Cons of Hoover Power Scrub

The Hoover FH50251 does a good job cleaning the carpet, but is does not do a good job drying the carpet. This is ironic given that the unit has an express clean mode that is supposed to dry carpets faster than rival products. The other issue is that it is advertised as pro heat but doesn’t have a heating element built into it.
This carpet cleaner cannot sit in one place. It will wear out the carpet sitting underneath it. If you’re using the hand tool, it will continue to run the brushes and leak water, too.
This vacuum has weaker suction than the Bissell carpet cleaner. It may do a decent job cleaning carpets, but it won’t suck up heavy debris from the base of the carpet.

Pros of the Bissell ProHeat 2X Pet Pro

The Bissell Pro Heat carpet cleaner has a superior upholstery cleaning tool. That can be used to clean stairs, as well.
The carpet cleaner and hand tool are easier to clean than earlier versions of the Bissell Pro Heat carpet cleaner. That’s invaluable when you are trying to clean up sticky messes like vomit or semi-liquid poop that tends to stick to the brushes. In fact, the brushes on this carpet cleaner are easier to clean than the Hoover’s brushes.
This carpet cleaner has a cleaning path of 11 inches wide. This is moderately wide for a carpet cleaner. One point in favor of this model is the low overhead, so it can slip under low tables.
This carpet cleaner has a longer power cord and hand tool connection than many other models.

Cons of the Bissell ProHeat 2X 1986

Sometimes the water tank leaks, and if this happens, it is hard to get customer service to do anything about it. The same has been observed if there is missing hardware like screws that hold the handle in place.
The unit is inexpensive, and the company achieved this by making a product that doesn’t last a long time. The unit will stop working after months of heavy use, one to two years if only broken out when the cat has an accident. The power scrubbers in particular are prone to failure after being used a few times.
The unit is advertised as 2X or two times faster drying. It doesn’t. It has an average drying time.

Summary

If you want a carpet cleaner that can clean mild pet stains like urine in the carpet, the Hoover model is sufficient. Bissell wins if you’re going to be cleaning up poop and vomit with the hand tool on a regular basis.

I love my Hoover. Had a Bissell prior to owning the Hoover. Paid a lot of $$ for the Bissell only to have it leak, not suck & finally just didn’t work. That’s when I threw the Bissell in the garbage. Went to town & bought my Hoover. My Hoover is @ 15 years old. It has cleaned house carpets and upholstery. car seats, head liners, & auto carpets. You need to go over the carpet a few times to get most of the moisture out. The lid to the holding tank for waste water is difficult to clean. Those are my only complaint. I’ll never go back to the other brand.

I bought a Hoover it stopped sucking most of the water after a couple months afterA year I had to push down on it to suck up water then sparks started to come out the back… it near made my carpets dirtier when it wouldn’t suck water

  I agree I have the model FH52000 got as a gift works great but after having it for 4 months the cord sparked almost caught on fire called customer svc they said no receipt they said I would have to pay full price to repair/replace.

I’ve owned both, the Bissel is a piece of crap. Parts breaking, seals come off , leaves chunks of debris on carpet that you must vacuum after shampooing. Its also a pain in the ass to use. The Hoover isn’t that much better but it is better and in my opinion much more durable.
