FlashFish 45000mAh Portable Solar Generator Review

Outdoor enthusiasts are fast becoming aware of how valuable portable solar generators can be. This review of the FlashFish 4500mAH Solar Generator is going to explore the possibilities this versatile device has to offer.

If you’re into fishing hunting and camping, there can be no doubt that the FlashFish will make your life much more comfortable. Even at home during an outage, you’ll have enough power for a TV or computer, plus router or satellite receiver, and a few lights. It’s ideally suited to keeping your portable devices, like laptops, phones, and tablets charged whilst on the go.

What I like most about the FlashFish Portable Solar Generator, and similar products, is that it provides pure sine wave (clean) power, quietly and efficiently wherever you may be. When we think solar generator, people immediately ask: how do I charge the batteries when there’s no sun? well, that’s simple. The FalshFish offers you three methods to charge the internal lithium ion battery pack. You can use a solar panel kit, a 120V power socket, or a 12V charging outlet in your car. So you should always have power when you need it.

How Long Do the Batteries Last?

The 45000mAH battery pack supplies 166 watt-hours of power. That’s enough to power a laptop for 3 to 4 hours or charge a 3000mAH battery device about 15 times.

How Long Does it Take to Charge the Battery?

If you use the 120V wall socket charger supplied with the unit, it will take about 5 – 6 hours to charge the battery. A 12VDC charger is also supplied, along with an adapter for a car cigarette lighter type outlet, and this will also take about 5 – 6 hours to fully charge the internal lithium ion battery. A solar kit is sold separately, or you can use any compatible solar portable solar charge kit, these things are pretty universal, so one size usually fits all. Using the sun always depends on the quality of the solar radiation, it will be affected by cloud cover and shade. You can expect the battery to charge in about 7 – 9 hours using solar panels.

How Do You Use the FlashFish Portable Solar Generator?

The FalshFish solar generator is wonderfully portable, weighing only 4.5 pounds. It has a fold down handle, making it easy to carry and store or take with you – even when backpacking.

It has simple on-off switch and an input for the battery charger of your choice. So you charge the battery, switch it on, and you’re good to go. The outlets are conveniently located and provide a variety of power options. An inverter supplies 200W peak power and 150W continuous power to 2 X 120V household outlets at the back of the machine. Above the outlets is an on/off switch supplying these outlets.

On the front panel, you 3 X USB ports where you can efficiently charge any USB device. These comprise 2 X 3.0 QC rapid charging USB ports and 1 X 5V 2.4A USB port. There is also a 12VDC outlet, which is great for 12V tools, lights, a min-fridge, or any of the myriad of 12V outdoor and camping devices. A large, easy to read LCD screen allows you to check on the system status and battery level at a glance.

The clever onboard computer keeps everything safe. It has over-voltage and over-current protection, protecting both the inverter and your sensitive electronic devices. It also has an over-heat protection system, and low-voltage protection.

The FlashFish 200W portable solar generator has a solid feel to it. I’d feel confident taking it on a camping trip. It’s versatile, blissfully easy to use, and is relatively inexpensive. The square design makes for space efficient storage. It will fit easily into the trunk of your car, even with all your outdoor gear and luggage.

Along with the obvious outdoor advantages, I know a lot of RV owners love this type of inverter system. At night you can shut your generator down to cut back on noise and save gas. The FlashFish will still provide you with power to use your laptop, lights, or watch TV, without the rumble of and fumes of a gas generator. It’s great as an emergency power supply in any situation, like hurricanes and earthquakes.
