Pros of the Eureka Airspeed Exact Reach

• The Eureka Airspeed AS1000A is a Consumer Reports Best Buy for 2014. The AS3008A is newer and not in the 2014 edition of Consumer Reports. However, the AS3008A is the same price as the AS1000A and you can often find it for about $100.

• This vacuum has a very long reach, with a total reach of 38 feet if you include the fully extended hose and 27 foot cord. You won’t have to unplug, migrate and then reconnect this vacuum cleaner when working in the same room.

• The vacuum has a high grade air filter. The dust cup filter can be washed so that you don’t have to replace it as often.

• The vacuum has a large dust cup.

• Lightweight with powerful suction

• Tackles carpets and bare floors with the same ease

• This vacuum can get the sand out of your carpet, a feat many vacuums can’t achieve.

• Sucks up cat and dog hair from any surface.

Cons of the Eureka Airspeed Exact Reach

• This vacuum is 14 pounds. Its high power suction plus its weight means it may take a lot of effort to push around the room.

• The vacuum head is rather narrow. This makes it easier to get in between some items but means you have to take more passes to clean a whole room.

• While the foot switch is conveniently located, it may take significant pressure to activate. This is a problem for those with limited body strength like the elderly.

Observations about the Eureka Airspeed

The vacuum does require some assembly at delivery. You have to assemble the vacuum base, the body frame, the canister and handle. They mostly click together, but you can’t just pull it out of the box and start using it. You also have to remove several cardboard inserts. This isn’t Ikea level assembly. This is four steps, compared to some vacuums for which you merely have to screw on the handle.

Consumer Reports gives this line high marks for how well it cleans bare floors, vacuum cleaner emissions and handling pet fur. The vacuum line as a whole did above average on carpet, total airflow and handling. The Airspeed Exact Reach has equal suction to the AS1000A model, so you consider it average to above average on all types of floors.

When it comes to reliability, Eureka vacuums are solidly average. About 7% of Eureka vacuums needed repair in a given year. In contrast, 12% of Riccar models did. Kirby was an outlier with only 3% needing to be repaired in a given year. Now wear and tear based on operating hours will shorten the life expectancy of the vacuum cleaner, but Eureka vacuum cleaners are pretty reliable. They tie Dyson and Kenmore vacuums on the rate at which they break down and do far better than Electrolux and Panasonic vacuum cleaners.
