Dyson DC44 Vs DC59

When you are looking for a suitable vacuum for those smaller jobs, you definitely want to get your hands on a cordless model that allows you to get into out of the way places easily. At the same time, cordless vacuums have been known to be notoriously gutless in that they do not have the capacity or the suction power of larger, corded vacuum cleaners. Dyson has a couple of cordless stick vacuum models that are suitable for household use and we have done a review comparing the popular Dyson DC44 vs DC59.

Features of the Dyson DC44

The DC44 features durable plastic materials and a grip style trigger that starts and stops operation when pressed. The battery is removable and is located just below the trigger. The dirt bin is easy to view because it is clear plastic so you can easily see when the dirt bin needs to be emptied. The DC44 has a wall mounted dock and when not in use, is placed out of the way of off the floor, taking up no valuable closet space.

There are two power modes for the DC44, standard and max and the max power setting allows the cleaner head to force its bristles deeper into carpet, so the maximum amount of dirt can be easily extracted. The nickel manganese battery life is about 20 minutes on the standard power setting and 8 minutes for the max power mode.

The motorized head is fitted onto a ball and has a long wand. The unit is very light and balanced with much more agility than a full sized machine. The DC44 requires only light maintenance with a filter washing about once monthly and the dirt bin must be emptied at least once per cleaning session.

Dyson DC44 Technology

The root cyclone technology of the Dyson DC44 has a major advantage over conventional vacuums. Many vacuums rely on bags and filters to capture dirt and dust and the air is supposed to flow through tiny holes in the bag, after depositing the dirt and dust in the bag. As the vacuum is used more the tiny holes in the bag can clog up hopelessly and cause the vacuum to lose suction. The Dyson DC44 does not use bags and instead utilizes root cyclone technology to create a centrifugal force which is thousands of times more powerful than gravity. This force flings pet hair, dirt and dust into the bin and allows the unit to operate efficiently.

Features of the Dyson DC59 Animal

The DC59 has a large selection of attachments. One of the main attachments is the motorized cleaning head which is designed to tackle carpets. Many of the attachments can be fitted onto the body or on the rigid extension so that the unit can be hand held or similar to a household full sized vacuum cleaner. The attachments included with the unit make it simple to reach hard to reach places and to get under furniture. The dust bin is quite small, so it needs to be emptied constantly if the floor is quite dirty.

The DC59 animal has a 26 minute battery life and should be placed on its charging dock when not in use or you may not be able to complete the job you set out to do. It is important to turn the vacuum off when not in use to preserve the battery life, for example, if you had to set it down or move something.

The ball based steering mechanism makes this vacuum easy to operate with smooth directional changes so that it does not take much effort to move the unit around. The DC59 does not clog or lose suction, so it is possible to get the same job done as a regular vacuum cleaner in half the time.

Dyson DC59 Animal Technology

The Dyson DC59 animal has a power dense 350w motor that spins at 110,000 rpm which is three times faster than conventional vacuum motors. This provides the machine with 50% more power than the DC44 and contributes to the Dyson DC59’s ability to suck up so much dirt in a seemingly effortless manner. The cyclone technology in the DC59 features 2 tier radial cyclones which are made up of a total of 15 cyclones across the two tiers. The high centrifugal forces capture the finest amounts of dust and the airflow is channeled through the center of the cyclone which creates maximum suction. Dirty air is spun around flinging debris into the dirt collection bin. Many vacuums fall short when it comes to vacuuming thick carpets. The DC59 cordless vacuum relishes the challenge. Pet hair, hard surface floors are well within its expertise. Many use cordless vacuums as their secondary vacuums, but it can easily accomplish tasks of a primary vacuum.

As a Dyson fan I love the technology. Ours is an upright model as we have quite a floor space to cover.

This model looks interesting for people with limited space.

    Good job Roger
