In this review of the Bissell Symphony Pet Vacuum & Steam Mop, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this model. This review of the Bissell Symphony also includes observations that aren’t clear points for or against the vacuum but could affect many buyers’ decisions regarding the model.
Pros of the Bissell Symphony Pet Vacuum & Steam Mop
This vacuum can steam clean spots where the pet threw up or pooped on the floor without making you get a separate vacuum to do so. You can also switch between low steam, high steam and no steam easily so that you can use only the amount of heat and power required to sterilize the area after sucking up the mess.
The mop pad can pick up dirt, food crumbs and minor wet messes, letting you use one appliance in place of sweeping and mopping most days.
The vacuum has a simple method of emptying the tank that won’t leave clumps of pet hair in the vacuum.
You can use reusable washable mop pads or disposable ones, based on your preference. And you can use disposable pads for the messes you don’t want to touch and simply drop in the trash using the hands-free tank emptier and switch back to reusable pads for routine floor cleaning.
This vacuum weighs around ten pounds. It is light weight even for a steam mop / stick vacuum combo.
The vacuum is easy to operate.
The unit is easy to assemble.
Cons of the Bissell Symphony Pet Vacuum & Steam Mop
This vacuum doesn’t do a good job getting nearly solidified sticky messes off of the floor, like urine, juice or soapy water residue that has dried to the floor. It doesn’t even do a good job with those messes when you’ve passed over it with both the vacuum and the steam mope mode activated.
The water tank on the Bissell Symphony is small. You can use it as a mop alternative for modest sized tile or concrete floors, but you won’t be able to steam clean that entire area.
If you suck up a lot of pet hair, especially from long haired animals, the hair has a tendency to clump around the filter and need to be removed by hand.
Expect to go over spots on carpet multiple times to pick it up, and don’t even bother on thick carpets like Berber.
Observations Regarding the Bissell Symphony Vacuum
This vacuum costs around $200, though you can find it for less on sale. It is worth the cost if it replaces two separate floor cleaners but not if it will only be used as a steam mop.
This stema cleaner cum vacuum is a low powered stick vacuum. It has enough power to suck up a light scattering of pet fur, small wet/dry mixes of poop and vomit and other minor messes. It can’t handle the situations where the cat has thrown up its body weight, remove animal poop mashed into thick carpet by an animal rolling on it or any wet or wet/dry mix that has soaked into thick carpet.
You can use disposable mop pads with the vacuum to clean up pet messes on hard floors like tile, stone or concrete, letting you clean up the semi-liquid messes without actually sucking the mess into the vacuum cleaner.
If you want to use the mop pads, it costs ten to fifteen dollars per mop pad kit.
Bissell sells de-mineralized steam mop water for use in the steam mop to leave behind a nice odor without leaving behind hard water stains. You can avoid this expense by using standard distilled water.
The Bissell Symphony has a long cord, so it won’t run out of battery life while you’re in the middle of the job, but it does lack the convenience of a cordless vacuum.
Summary
This vacuum’s price is worthwhile if it lets you replace both a steam mop and a vacuum cleaner, while replacing the steam mop in terms of performance and handling many small messes that otherwise require a vacuum cleaner.
