In this review of the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum, model 1650A, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this vacuum cleaner. The review will also include observations about this vacuum cleaner ostensibly designed for long hair and other pet hair that clogs up other vacuums.
Pros of the Bissell Hair Eraser Vacuum
It doesn’t tangle on long hair from cats or dogs as much as other vacuums, due to it’s tangle free brush roll.
It won’t clog on wads of pet fur like the hair balls the cat coughed up.
It has specialized tools for picking up pet hair from your upholstery, but you may need to go to the manufacturer’s website to buy detailing tools like a crevice tool.
The vacuum’s high end filtration system combined with the tight seals help it suck up dirt, dander and pet fur without leaving a fine mist of debris that aggravates allergies or asthma.
The vacuum head is ultra-maneuverable. It can turn almost on a dime due to its swivel head, a new feature for a Bissell vacuum. And the broad head cleans almost as well on the edges of the vacuum head as it does in the middle.
It can clean on both hard surfaces and carpets. However, it does a better job on carpets than hard floors. Unlike some of its rivals, you can turn off the brush roll so that the vacuum doesn’t scratch up hardwood floors.
The vacuum’s quick release wand lets you spot clean on shelves, drapes and stairs with minimal effort.
It comes with a five year limited warranty; this is better than the warranty that comes with some of the other Bissell vacuum cleaners.
The unit is solidly built. It is easy to assemble and doesn’t require any special tools for you do to so.
Cons of this Bissell 1650A Vacuum Cleaner
The unit comes with a Febreeze odor eliminator vacuum filter. These are more expensive than your average vacuum cleaner air filter and harder to find when they need to be replaced.
While the ability to suck up pet fur without tangling is outstanding, its suction for other debris is average, when it comes to picking up heavy debris like pebbles, large solid crumbs and so forth.
Observations
Weighing eighteen pounds, it takes average effort to move. Since it isn’t self propelled, it can wear out someone with limited upper body strength to maneuver. The weight is concentrated on the top of the unit, so you will use your arms and wrists more than your back and legs to move it. This can make the vacuum hard to control if you don’t have the strength to manipulate it.
It doesn’t have a retractable power cord; you have to wind it up. However, it is a long cord, measuring 30 feet.
Summary
This pet specific vacuum cleaner does an excellent job picking up pet hair on any surface. It will pick up pet hair left behind by multiple shedding pets before you need to empty the dirt cup.
It doesn’t work as well on hard floors, and it can’t pick up the heavy debris, so expect to have to break out the shop vacuum instead of this one to pick up cat litter or spilled dog food.

I ordered this vacuum and was led to believe that I would receive the additional tools shown on the ad. Not so! When I called to complain and ask about the additional tools I was told that if i didn’t like the vac I could return it. It will take more than 30 days to get my money back. How much more, in six people no one could say exactly. Meanwhile they would have my money and I don’t won’t have a vacuum! Now the vacuum itself is pretty good. I say that only having had it one day. I do find it cumbersome and heavy. I mainly purchased it to be able to go from rugs to bare floor without have to attach a tool or hose, just a fairly smooth transaction from one to the other. This Pet eraser Vac does do a good job on that. It is just that I feel like I was lied to and now don’t have a good feeling about the entire transaction. I will return the vac. I have a 15 year old Riccar that actually has more suction. The down side of it is the expensive paper bags and I have to go drag out the hose and attachments to do the bare floors.
Got mine as a gift, loved what it showed on the tv promo, was excited ! 1st time I used it had to go digging stuff out of the canister, 2nd time used it hair is wrapped around the bar just like all the others. Got the mini vac with mine worked great then tried to charge it per the instructions and nope wouldn’t charge..Want to send it back they said it was past the deadline. I have their carpet cleaner and loved it, was hoping for the same quality. Will stick with my 12 yr old Dyson..

its junk! works great for about 3 months. then you have to become a vaccum technician just to operate it. everthing they advertise about the vaccum seems to not be true. pet hair gets stuck regularly. i clean the vaccum regularly and still end up with the same results. i think its funny that my vac is hardly a year old and now they have released a new model of my vaccum with the same great claims. if the last model was such a godsend why do you need a new design? Bissell i feel like you totallly ripped me off. I payed your company way more than i would ever pay for a vaccum and yes $300.00 is alot of money to me although i understand thats its not alot to you cause your busy selling junk and making a fortune.
way to go bissell THANKYOU so much.

Wish I had read the reviews before buying a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser. Have had it less then a year and just paid $32.00 to a technician to clean out all 4 air vents. Poor design there. He told me I would have to do this regularly. Not at all what I expected. VERY disappointed. Not recommended.

After 3 months roller brush bearings became very noisy. Bissell told me this was a maintenance item and tried to sell me the part. Brought it back to the retailer who brought it to a Bissell repair center and convinced them that after 90 days this is not normal maintenance. They ordered the part and 3 weeks later the part has not been shipped.
Have been without a vac for a month now. Never will I buy another Bissell product.
My wife and I have had saint bernards at our house for the last 6 years. Usually we buy a NEW bissel vacuum every 6 months due to dog hair issues. We waited patiently when we seen the ad for the pet eraser and thought we were saved from spending a fortune every year. When I used it for the first time i was so disappointed…. After just 3 back and forth motions it spit outa ball of fur. Then again…….. And again. We’ve been very loyal to bissel but feel let down now and will go try other products

I have 2 Alaskan Malamutes. After seeing the commercial I thought this was going to be the answer to my prayers. It doesn’t matter how often I vacuum, it just rolls hair up into tight cigars and spits them out. While it is rolling the hair tight you can barely move the machine, and it wobbles around trying to accommodate all the extra volume in the roller chamber. It was a complete waste of money
