The Aquabot i2 robotic pool cleaner is a mid-market automatic pool cleaner. What are the pros and cons of this robotic pool cleaner?
Pros of the Aquabot i2
This efficient pool cleaner uses less power than many of its rivals, including older models by Aqua Products.
It can handle nearly every type of pool configuration, and it can navigate oddly shaped pools. It can go up to fifty feet with its 60′ cord.
It comes with a floating cord that is almost impossible to tangle.
It weighs less than thirty pounds, so you can pull it out of the pool without a complicated maneuver with a caddy or over the pool drain if it gets stuck.
The Aquabot circulates the water around it to help capture the debris that would be left in the wake of some of its rivals. And its micro-filtration bags capture more debris than many of other pool cleaners.
This pool cleaner can run off electricity instead of a pool pump, so it is a great choice for using on older pool pumps that can’t generate the gallons per minute needed to power many modern pool cleaners. And because it doesn’t run off the pump’s water flow, you won’t wear out the pool pump faster or reduce the filtration rate of the pool.
The controls on the robot are very simple.
It can travel on any type of pool surface, including pebble bottoms others don’t clean well.
The filter baskets are easy to empty.
It can scrub most pools in one to two hours.
The modular design of the Aquabot i2 makes it easy to repair if you get replacement parts online or the nearest dealer can service it.
Cons of the Aquabot i2
It can only climb the walls about a foot or two, provided the wall has a six inch minimum radius. It does not eliminate the need for the walls of your pool to be scrubbed, whether by a wall skimmer or manual labor.
Its fast speed and low profile means it can get stuck on some pool drains and be unable to get off on its own.
It has a basic timer for one and two hour run times. You can supplement these options with an external timer.
Due to speed and brush configuration, it will pick up most loose debris but may not get leaves or large stones. It can pick up seed pods, pine needles and dead bugs.
Observations
This pool cleaner costs around $600 at full price and is rarely on sale. There are robotic pool cleaners that cost over a thousand dollars, and there are automatic pool cleaners that cost half the price of an Aquabot i2.
This pool cleaner is suitable for both in ground pools and above ground pools, so it is just as safe to use in the above ground pool you set up at the cabin as the in ground pool in your house.
It comes with a one year full warranty through most distributors and three year warranty for the power supply, motor and pump.
Summary
This easy to use, simple to maintain robotic pool cleaner performs well in most types of pools. It is a great choice for those who don’t want to further strain a pool pump but not the best choice for deep steep walled pools that need the algae scrubbed off unless you will run a wall cleaner separately. This automatic pool cleaner gets bonus points for those who want to alternate it between in ground and above ground pools.

Sandy Foster says
We recently purchased the aquatbot i2 and are not completely satisfied with its performance. It only does short sweeps. Is there a way to do longer sweeps. Does not seem to know where the debri is at. Any suggestions. Have tried different settings with no luck. Expensive product to not have it clean as well as we expected.
Yah, I just purchased one of these from PoolExpress, just arrived this morning with a broken cord.
Some where believe I saw a review comment with a pic of one with a broken cord. so apparently this is not a freak thing, thus surprised it’s not mentioned in your comments.
